Buyers from Australia to Mexico, from the east to west coasts and 13 states in between flocked to the annual GENETRUST at Chimney Rock Cattle Company sale November 5th and 6th in Concord, Arkansas. Attendees were welcomed with the usual warm hospitality, great food and stellar cattle that have made Bill and Gail Davis' annual sale the highlight of the year for many Brangus breeders.
Friday evening's registered female sale was led off with the sale of the dominate Brangus herd sire, LTD of Brinks 415T28. In 2010, LTD was the most used AI sire in the Brangus breed, recording more registered offspring than any other sire. Genesis Ranch, Mike and Gloria Weathers, returned to again purchase another stellar herd sire for their herd along with Alydar and the immortal 607L11. One-half interest and full possession sold for $26,000.
Three lots topped out the female offering each bringing $13,000. TDR MS Tank 129T8, a proven donor female from the Cavender Brangus program featured explosive growth and solid carcass numbers. Robert Yates Ranch with managing partner, Pete Peterson from Hamptonville, NC purchased this lot.
Clint Basey from Florence, TX added Ms Brinks Leader 468R18 from Schmidt Farms to his herd. 468R18 is also a proven donor cow who produced SF Commitment that sold in the GENETRUST at Cavender's Sale in 2009 for $13,000 as well.
WAT Ms Csonka 541W7 was purchased by David Wood of Double W Ranch. This exciting young Csonka daughter bred by Johnston Farms was a favorite of registered breeders. Out of the famous 541P103 donor this bred heifer excels in growth and carcass numbers.
141 total lots sold on Friday evening to gross $484,300 and average an impressive $3,423.
On Saturday registered and commercial breeders alike packed the Cow Palace facility for the bull and commercial female sale. Suhn Cattle Company, Vorel Brangus and Cold Creek Ranch teamed up to buy CRC Landau 263X2 for $22,000. Sired by the great LTD and out of a leading donor and Summit Cow from the Chimney Rock herd, 263L; Landau's EPD numbers are packed with growth and maternal power.
The second high selling bull was WAT Estancia 263X4. Estancia was bred by Johnston Farms and purchased for $19,500 by Quail Creek Brangus, Steele, AL. This Blanda son possesses an out-cross pedigree coupled with powerful individual carcass data and explosive birth to yearling weight spread.
Saturday's bull sale saw 145 total bulls sell through the ring for a gross of $519,250 to average $3,581. 83 coming two-year old bulls averaged $4,092 and 62 yearling bulls averaged $2,898.
An exceptional set of commercial females carrying GENETRUST genetics sold following the bulls on Saturday. Ten commercials pair averaged $1,900. 188 bred heifers sold and averaged $1,285 and 12 open heifers averaged $700.

A great spring day plus an excellent offering of Brangus genetics bred for the future needs of the cattle industry greeted Brangus enthusiasts for the GENETRUST at Cavender’s Neches River Ranch registered and commercial Brangus female sale. Bidding was active, both from the seats and over the internet with ninety-one registered lots grossing $316,550 to average $3,479.
The high selling lot at $9,000 was from Cavender Brangus as Lot 66, 541P96, a proven donor and daughter of the feed efficiency sire, Good Fortune of Brinks 14H3, sold to the Oaks Farm, Joe & Catherine Kassler, Newnan, GA; and Tom & Betty Davis, Cold Creek Ranch, Marietta, GA. Second high seller was Lot 95, an excellent high performing open heifer, sired by LTD of Brinks 415T28 from Vorel Brangus, Luther, OK. She sold to Scott Henderson, Bossier City, LA for $8,500. The third high seller, Lot 40, was from Suhn Cattle Company and sold to Jack Moore, Ingram, TX, sired by the calving ease sire CRC Specialist 392T2, she sold for $7,250. Volume registered buyers were new Brangus breeders, Tony Westbrooks, Olla, LA; who purchased fourteen lots and Roger Richardson, Nixa, MO; added nine head to his program.
Saturday’s Field Day was well attended and the crowd enjoyed a panel discussion on the profit opportunities in today’s cattle industry. Panel members included Russell Trefney, Weimer, TX; Brandon Crintendon, Port Lavaca, TX; and Joe Cavender, Bullard, TX. It was followed by a low stress cattle handling demonstration by Joel Ham from Big Lake, TX. After lunch an active crowd evaluated an excellent group of commercial Brangus females. The high selling group of females were an outstanding set of F1 Brangus pairs that sold to Richard Baetz, Lindale, TX for $1750. Four hundred forty-nine Brangus females averages $1,381 with volume purchases being made by Don Thomas & Sons, Madison, MO; Mike Pope, Little Rock, AR; Clay Barnhouse, Bolivar, MO; Dean Hummer, Parsons, KS; and Mike Coggins, Lake Park, GA.

A windy day with moderate temps greeted buyers on Tuesday, March 22 and enthusiastic cattlemen packed the Suhn Cattle Company sales facility for the 18th Annual Suhn Cattle Company Bull Sale. This marked the second year that this event was held under the GENETRUST banner—a marketing alliance Suhn Cattle Co. entered into along with nine other progressive breeders from throughout the US. Satisfaction with the product presented was confirmed with predominately repeat buyers on the seats.
Highlighting this year’s sale offering was Lot 36, TJM Coronado 535X, a truly top end EPD package with performance to back it up and sired by perhaps the most consistent sire of the Brangus breed, CB Hombre 561T3. He was purchased by the partnership of John Milam, Draggin’ M Ranch, El Dorado, AR and Todd Garrett, Garrett Brangus, Midlothian, TX for $25,000. David and Nada Wood, Double W Ranch, Houston, TX purchased Lot 1, Suhn’s Affirmed 30T, a proven herd sire with phenomenal data and EPDs for $9,000. Lot 34 Oaks Escalante 1302X2 a deep, thick, structurally sound son of Hill of Brinks 30S63 was purchased by Mark Watson, Watson 3 Ranch in Garrison, TX for $8750. Suhn’s LTD 919W23, sired by LTD of Brinks 415T28, was impressive with his exceptional eye appeal and EPD rankings in the top 20% or better in four traits. He commanded a selling price of $7,500 from Duane Hahn, Platte Valley Brangus, Columbus, NE.
The enthusiasm for the Ultrablack bulls was again strong this year. Lot 10, a grandson of the super calving ease sire, Newt of Brinks 302P16, and whose dam was a Connealy Lead On daughter. He was purchased by Troy & Cindy Lemay, Lemay Cattle Co.; Winfield, KS for $7000. Lot 11, WAT Lead Gun 404W3. brought $5750 from Kristen Kastner, College Station, TX combining the bloodlines of Lead Gun and Bon View New Design 878 with 6 traits in the top 10% of the breed. Another Ultrablack, Lot 35, Holcomb’s Trademark 1417X5 a deep ribbed son of “BT” was purchased by Cavender Ranches, Jacksonville, TX for $5500.
Headlining the Angus offering was Lot 151, Valley View Protégé 0237, an incomparable son of the immortal sire GAR-EGL Protégé—purchased by Kates Angus Farm, Rosamond, IL and Betzolb Farms, Nokomis, IL for $10,000. Deep, long, structurally correct, good footed with overall depth of rib and stoutness. Brian Hind, Madison, KS purchased lot 146 a son of Connealy Network, Valley View Network 9218 for $5000.
Comments from new and repeat customers were most favorable with many noting the overall phenotypical and genotypical consistency and uniformity of the bulls.
Bulls sold into twelve states this offering. Volume buyers included Danny Wright represented by his ranch manager PeeWee Brookshire, OK; Frosty Tipton, NV; and Trent McKnight, TX.

A packed house of enthusiastic buyers enjoyed perfect weather for the GENETRUST at Cavender’s Neches River Ranch Annual Brangus Bull and Commercial Female Sale, Jacksonville, TX. Buyers’ comments were that this was the most consistent, uniform, highest quality set of Brangus bulls this sale has ever offered.
The high selling bull of the day was Lot 2, GR Swift 209W3 and was the selection of Roy Schoenig, Schoenig Land & Cattle, Locust Grove , TX at $20,000 for ½ interest and possession. This outstanding son of Lambert of Brinks, bred by Genesis Ranch, Mike Weathers, Columbus, TX tabulates outstanding EPDs’ for IMF, REA and growth while still maintaining a BWEPD that is below breed average.
The second high seller was Lot 3, WW Cherokee 535W36 and was purchased by Salacoa Valley Ranch, Fairmont, GA for $8,000. This impressive son of Singletary bred by Double W, David and Nada Wood, Houston, TX is out of the great herd sire producing matron 535R14 and posted a strong EPD profile that ranked him in the top 10% or better in the breed for seven traits.
Ray Johnston, Montgomery, AL added two Cavender Brangus bred herd sire prospects to his bull battery with a high maternal son of Next Step in Lot 26 at $6500 CB Next Step 222W a yearling son of Affirmed Lot 133, CB Affirmed 767W10, for $6250.
Eighty-one coming two year old Brangus bulls grossed $294,550 to average $3,636. Forty-nine yearling Brangus bulls grossed $148,450 to average $3,030.
Volume bull buyers for the day were Stan Thompson, Talco, TX, Trent McKnight, Throckmorton, TX, Jason Jones, Brandon, MS, and Wat Johnson, Montgomery, AL.
Topping the commercial female sale was a tremendous pen of ten Braford females with Brangus sired calves at side. They commanded a bid of $1685 from Robin Liles, Tatum, TX. They were followed closely by a pen of Brangus pairs going to Danny Wright, Hinton, OK at $1600. They were also one of the volume female buyers of the day along with Jimmy Acker, Greensboro, AL. Both ranches put together an outstanding set of pairs, and bred and open heifers.
Two hundred twenty-nine commercial bred and open heifers grossed $261,130 to average $1140. Two hundred commercial pairs grossed $272,200 to average $1361.

Enthusiastic Brangus breeders from fifteen states converged on Concord, AR November 6th and 7th for the Second Annual GENETRUST at Chimney Rock Brangus Sale. As in past years the crowd was awed at the superb hospitality that Bill and Gail Davis and their entire team do of hosting this remarkable event. Great people, outstanding cattle, great food and memorable Brangus fellowship all added to this history making event.
Friday night’s sale saw the lead off lot proven herd sire, Suhn’s Next Step 331R7, command a final bid of $36,000 from 101 Ranch Manager, Scott Broadus, Palo Pinto, TX for 2/3 interest and possession. Next Step is noted for his outstanding progeny—especially the terrific daughters he produces. The next lot in the sale, Lot 59, a proven donor from Schmidt Farms, SF Miss Newsman 535R3, brought $30,000 from the partnership of Platte Valley Brangus, Columbus, NE; TJM Ranch, Kerrville, TX and Suhn Cattle Co., Eureka, KS. Lots 10 and 10A, the proven donor Miss CRC Cadence 55R18 and her heifer calf by Specialist brought $28,000 from Draggin’ M Ranch, El Dorado, AR. Topping the 3N1 offering, Lot 6, a two year old full sister to last year’s high selling bull, CRC Guardian 9U8U5, purchased by Michael Bennett and Gary Clem for $15,000 with Lot 6A her Suhn’s Next Step 331R7 heifer calf being purchased by Brad Chisum, Niangua, MO for $7,000. Lot 72 and 72A followed closely as WR Miss Duke 594S7 was purchased by Draggin’ M for $15,000 and her Csonka heifer calf found a new home with The Oaks, Newnan, GA for $6500.
Other high sellers throughout the evening were Lot 90 the dam of CRC Troubadour who commanded a price of $15,000 to Santa Rosa Ranch, Navasota, TX. Robert Yates, Hamptonville, NC purchased Lot 42, CB Ms BKS 331T at $11,000 and the high selling open heifer, Lot 41, a daughter of CRC Specialist was purchased by Platte Valley Brangus, Columbus, NE for $8500. A total of 112 Brangus females and pregnant recipients averaged $4750 solidifying breeders trust in the genetic superiority of the GENETRUST program.
Saturday’s offering saw competitive bidding from both registered and commercial breeders on an outstanding offering of Brangus bulls. Lot 150, DMR Goodnight 607W3, had created much excitement and conversation in Brangus circles and when the final gavel fell the new owner of ½ interest and possession in this exciting Alydar son was Roy Schoenig, Honey Grove, TX at $35,000. The next lot was, CRC North Star 9U8W3, a calving ease grandson of WR Duke 228F and out of Guardian’s dam commanded a price of $25,000 from Cavender Ranches, Troup, TX. The next high selling coming two year old was DMR Newt 675W8 going to Joe Parsons, Sumner, TX for $13,000.
The strongest set of yearling bulls ever offered at Chimney Rock Cattle Co. saw Lot 251, Suhn’s Chisholm 331W45, a son of LTD of Brinks was purchased by Cavender Ranches for $18,000. Lot 250, CRC Matamores 55W7, a tremendous son of Lambert of Brinks was purchased by Schmidt Farms at $10,000.
One hundred thirty Brangus bulls sold for an average price of $3,413. The volume bull purchasers were Danny Wright, Hinton, OK; Wat Johnson, Montgomery, AL; and Trent McKnight, Throckmorton, TX.
The commercial females saw strong consistent demand with a set of 4 year old pairs receiving a final bid of $1500 each from Corlay Farm and Cattle Co., Huntsville, TX. Mike Vorel, Luther, OK purchased a group of heavy bred four year old for $1400. Three hundred twenty-six commercial females averaged $1198 with volume purchases being made by Mike Brumley, Hereford, TX; Rocky Higgins, Lamar, MO; Terry Jones, Gravelly, AR; and Todd Garrett, Midlothian, TX.

Following a weekend snowstorm the weather turned warm on Tuesday, March 23 and enthusiastic cattlemen packed the Suhn Cattle Company sales facility for the 17th Annual Suhn Cattle Company Bull Sale. This marked the first year that this event was held under the GENETRUST banner—a marketing alliance Suhn Cattle Co. entered into along with nine other progressive breeders from throughout the US.
Highlighting this year’s sale offering was Lot 32, Suhn’s Step Ahead 918W2 a calving ease, high maternal son of Suhn’s Next Step 331R7 with loads of eye appeal. He was purchased by Joe Cavender, Cavender Ranches, Bullard, TX for $20,000. Lot 33, a Lambert of Brinks 317R3 son, Suhn’s Patriot 440W, posted impressive carcass and growth data and commanded a selling price of $18,000 from Jack Moore, TJM Ranch, Kerrville, TX. Another crowd pleaser with excellent eye appeal and performance data was Lot 34, TJM Steadfast 361W, bred by Jack Moore and sold to David Wood, Double W Ranch, Houston, TX for $14,500. Lot 35, Suhn’s Dedication 919W2, was purchased by Mike Weathers, Genesis Ranch, Columbus, TX for $9000. This young herd sire prospect is a solid calving ease prospect and son of Suhn’s Northern Dancer. Drawing a lot of interest was the Lot 29 bull, Suhn’s Garrett 894U18, an amazing deep ribbed, high volume son of Garrett of Brinks 789P purchased for $8750 from Mike Vorel, Luther, OK.
The enthusiasm for the Ultrablack bulls was again strong this year. Lot 43, a son of the prepotent Angus sire, Cooley Menard 326S topped the Ultrablack offering. Lot 43’s dam, Suhn’s Ms Duke 30M, is in the donor program at Suhn’s. This lot brought $5500 from Zach O’Brien, South Coffeyville, OK. Two other lots brought $5000 each: Lot 95 another Menard son purchased by Austin Winter, Holton, KS and Lot 93, a Suhn’s Northern Dancer son out of an Ultrablack female, found a new home at Donnohue Farms, Appleton City, MO.
Headlining the Angus offering was Lot 147, Valley View Answer 8565, sired by SAV Final Answer 0035 and purchased by David Wade, Mapleton, KS for $6300. Lot 148, Valley View Lad 8629, a son of Dr J Analyst M250 also bred by Valley View Angus, Republic MO and purchased by the Thornberry Family Partnership, New Waverly, TX. They also took home Lot 150, Valley View Focus 9389 a Mytty In Focus son for $3500.

GENETRUST at Cavender Ranch Sees Strong Demand for Brangus Genetics
Jacksonville, TX- A high powered offering of Brangus bulls and commercial females drew an enthusiastic crowd to the second GENETRUST sale of the year, held at Cavender’s Neches River Ranch, December 5th, hosted by the Joe Cavender family. The newly created GENETRUST alliance merges the genetic power of ten of the Brangus breed’s leading genetic suppliers under one banner; thus creating the leading single supplier of Brangus genetics.
Over 100 registered and commercial cattlemen from seven states registered to purchase the genetics that featured offerings in price ranges to fit anyone’s budget.
Overall 119 Brangus bulls averaged $3,246. The bull offering included 34 two-year-old bulls that averaged $3,807 and the remaining 85 yearling bulls sold for an average of $3,021.
Overall 501 commercial Brangus influenced females averaged $1,248 as bidding remained strong on the females. The 394 bred heifers averaged $1,215 and the 107 pairs sold for $1,372 on the average.
SF Jesse 596U drew the top price of the day in the bull offering at $19,000. The October yearling bull was sired by Jesse of Brinks and was out of a Bear Bryant of Brinks bred dam. The top seller was also ranked in the top 3% of the Brangus breed for REA, top 15% for weaning and yearling and top 25% for milk. This exceptional bull from GENETRUST partner, Schmidt Farms sold to Roy Schoening Land and Cattle, Honey Grove, Texas.
Another Schmidt Farms bull drew the final bid of Draggin M’ Ranch, Eldorado, Arkansas at $15,000. SF Dependence 535U24, a son of Suhn’s Next Step 331R7 carried proven genetic strength on both sides of the pedigree and he offered a great combination of maternal excellence and weaning growth.
TJM Ranch, Ingram, Texas also paid $15,000 for a new sire for his program. CB Expectation 675U13, from the Cavender program. This bull ranked in the top 15% for six traits and was sired by Unitas of Brinks. This bull’s genetic makeup, coupled with his phenotypic excellence made him a pen favorite and bidding reflected his popularity.
A Singletary of Brinks son offering growth and carcass excellence attracted the eye and final bid of $13,000 for one-half interest and possession from Cain Cattle Company, Gulfport, Mississippi. SF Commitment 468U15, from the Schmidt program ranked in the top 4% for IMF; 5% for yearling weight and 10% for weaning and REA.
Ronnie Link from The Eagle’s Ranch, Evergreen, LA was the volume buyer during the commercial female sale taking home over 100 females from the sale.

Registered and commercial cattlemen from over 15 states crowded into the Chimney Rock sale facility for a power packed offering which included a proven herd sire, registered bulls, elite donors, young, productive bred and open females, plus commercial open and bred females. Cattle sold throughout the offering in price ranges to fit anyone’s budget.
During Friday evening’s registered female sale the high selling lot of the evening was CB Ms Tank 561T4. This exceptional young female from GENETRUST partner, Cavender Ranches was a sale favorite and commanded a final bid of $30,000. 561T4 was purchased by Diamond DR Brangus, Ross and Denise Riebe of Ventura, Iowa to jump start their embryo transfer program and proves the acceptance of the Brangus breed further north.
The second high selling female of the evening for $25,000 was Ms Brinks Good Fortune 541P103 from Johnston Farms and purchased by Draggin ‘M Ranch in El Dorado, Arkansas. This proven donor was a sale highlight and widely recognized for her growth, carcass and feed efficiency traits.
Suhn’s Miss Cadence 331M3, bred by GENETRUST partner Suhn Cattle Company was the third high selling female of the evening for $17,000 to Southern Cattle Company, Marianna, Florida. This proven donor is the dam of Suhn’s Next Step 331R7 whose offspring were incredibly popular during the two sales with 30 lots averaging $3,115.
Also selling Friday evening for $17,000 was the trusted herd sire, Suhn’s Alydar 416N3, owned by TJM Ranch and Suhn Cattle Company. Mike Weathers of Genesis Ranch in Columbus, Texas purchased 2/3 interest and full possession. Alydar offspring continued their widespread popularity throughout the sale commanding an impressive $4,288 average.
One hundred thirty seven lots sold during Friday evening’s sale to gross $495,300 to post an impressive average of $3,615 which included more than 55 young, open heifers.
During Saturday’s bull sale a packed crowd saw active bidding throughout the offering of more than 120 Brangus and Ultrablack bulls. Leading off the offering was CRC Guardian 9U8U5 an exciting young, high growth, low birth weight Csonka son from Chimney Rock. Guardian sold for $30,000 to GENETRUST partner, Johnston Farms in Montgomery, Alabama. Thirty nine Csonka offspring averaged $3,924 throughout the sale.
The second high selling bull was Suhn’s Dependable 918U24 an Alydar son who sold for $12,000 to Hardee Farms in Chiefland, Florida. This exciting young herd sire prospect was true to the Alydar line of calving ease and maternal genetics coupled with thickness and fertility.
One hundred twenty three bulls sold on Saturday to gross $412,600 and average $3,354. More than 260 commercial pairs, bred and open heifers averaged $1,075.
