GENETRUST at Cavender Ranch Sees Strong Demand for Brangus Genetics

Jacksonville, TX- A high powered offering of Brangus bulls and commercial females drew an enthusiastic crowd to the second GENETRUST sale of the year, held at Cavender’s Neches River Ranch, December 5th, hosted by the Joe Cavender family. The newly created GENETRUST alliance merges the genetic power of ten of the Brangus breed’s leading genetic suppliers under one banner; thus creating the leading single supplier of Brangus genetics.

Over 100 registered and commercial cattlemen from seven states registered to purchase the genetics that featured offerings in price ranges to fit anyone’s budget. 

Overall 119 Brangus bulls averaged $3,246. The bull offering included 34  two-year-old bulls that averaged $3,807 and the remaining 85 yearling bulls sold for an average of $3,021.

Overall 501 commercial Brangus influenced females averaged $1,248 as bidding remained strong on the females. The 394 bred heifers averaged $1,215 and the 107 pairs sold for $1,372 on the average.

SF Jesse 596U drew the top price of the day in the bull offering at $19,000. The October yearling bull was sired by Jesse of Brinks and was out of a Bear Bryant of Brinks bred dam. The top seller was also ranked in the top 3% of the Brangus breed for REA, top 15% for weaning and yearling and top 25% for milk. This exceptional bull from GENETRUST partner, Schmidt Farms sold to Roy Schoenig Land and Cattle, Honey Grove, Texas.

Another Schmidt Farms bull drew the final bid of Draggin M’ Ranch, Eldorado, Arkansas at $15,000. SF Dependence 535U24, a son of Suhn’s Next Step 331R7 carried proven genetic strength on both sides of the pedigree and he offered a great combination of maternal excellence and weaning growth.

TJM Ranch, Ingram, Texas also paid $15,000 for a new sire for his program. CB Expectation 675U13, from the Cavender program. This bull ranked in the top 15% for six traits and was sired by Unitas of Brinks. This bull’s genetic makeup, coupled with his phenotypic excellence made him a pen favorite and bidding reflected his popularity.

A Singletary of Brinks son offering growth and carcass excellence attracted the eye and final bid of $13,000 for one-half interest and possession from Cain Cattle Company, Gulfport, Mississippi. SF Commitment 468U15, from the Schmidt program ranked in the top 4% for IMF; 5% for yearling weight and 10% for weaning and REA.

Ronnie Link from The Eagle’s Ranch, Evergreen, LA was the volume buyer during the commercial female sale taking home over 100 females from the sale.
