JACKSONVILLE, TEXAS: Buyers from Florida to California descended on Cavender's Neches River Ranch facility outside of Jacksonville, Texas for their "Fistful of Potential" annual bull sale on December 3rd. Cattlemen were greeted with unusually warm weather and a powerful set of Brangus bulls.
The sale set records with more than 131 buyers registering from 13 states. Both new and past customers remarked at the depth of quality and uniformity of the bulls and commercial females offered for sale. 128 total bulls sold that day to gross $504,750 and average $3,943.
Lot 97, CB Revelation 924X, a curve-bending young herd sire prospect whose moderate birth weight and growth numbers which register in the top 3% of the breed commanded a final price of $14,000 from Platte Valley Brangus, Duane and Diane Hahn of Columbus, Nebraska.
Lot 100, CB Ramon 415X27, from Cavender Ranches was the second high selling bull and top selling yearling at $10,000 to The Oaks Farms, Joe & Catherine Kassler, Newnan GA. His sire, Suhn’s Affirmed 416N4, and his dam, MS Brinks Bright Side 415R23, are both highly respected for their outstanding progeny and breeding value.
Draggin' M Ranch, John Milam of El Dorado, Arkansas purchased the third high selling bull. Lot 103, GACC Mr. Chico 11X42 was bred by Gariss Brangus and sold for $9,750. A crowd favorite, this Patton of Brinks son, combined growth and carcass strength in a phenotypically correct package. Chico, was one of 40 fall yearling bulls to sell and these fall yearlings averaged $3,437
CB Baxter 132X7 was added to Johnston Farms herd bull line up which includes GT sire, CRC Guardian 9U8U5, for $8,750. Baxter is a CB Hombre 541T3 son out of a John Wayne daughter whose moderate frame combined with excellent growth and carcass numbers attracted the interest of many buyers.
Texas Brangus breeders Neal Janssen of LeWard and D. Mark Watson of Garrison both spent $8,500 to purchase CB Rojo 98X2 and CB Sergio of 568X, respectively. Rojo and Sergio led off the spring coming two year old bull offering of 88 bulls which averaged $4,173.
Volume bull buyers included Watkins Johnston of Alabama, Byron Storey of Florida and Alison Harley of Texas.
Following the bull sale, 417 commercial females sold to gross $577,100 and average $1,384. James Cavender of Pittsburg, Texas and Ronnie Stephens of Fort Worth, Texas were the volume buyers.
Richy Wall of Judson, Texas purchased the high selling set of F1 tigerstripes for $1,950. Both Joey Sliva TX and Rayburn Smith, LA took home sets of commercials at $1,900 each. Overall 372 total head of heavy bred Brangus heifers grossed $497,650 to average $1,338.
